Well, if you are not joking: there are a couple of theories. One being that a meteor struck the earth causing a 'nuclear winter' and change of environment which was so rapid as to wipe out most of the large, successful life on earth. The other is that volcanic/geologic activity was so heavy during a particular period that it caused a 'nuclear winter' and a change of environment which was so rapid as that, again, the successful life on Earth could not adapt quickly enough. Then, whichever occurred (meteor/geologic) small mammal predessesors scampered out of their holes and began to find uncompeted resources on the land.

Finally, there are some in the know that think maybe dinosaurs are not extinct after all: that birds are the end result of the successful dino lineage.

That is my understanding of it all. However, I'm no expert. tulsa

There are many fossils to prove them, but where did the crater go from the meteor impact?

One thing about the crater: we can see them on the moon really well. But on earth there is so much erosion and geologic activity (plates shifting, oceans moving, glaciers) that we lose many of the impact sites, and they don't look as nifty and whole like the one in Arizona. Now, that being said: the oceans cover most of the surface of the earth by far. If a meteor did hit or will hit the probability is with it hitting somewhere in the ocean, muddling up the idea of a nice crater like we see on the moon or in Arizona. Finally, there is evidence that off the central american coast is an impact site that shows up when examining the underwater topography. A large impact site. It is called the Yucatan Crater. tulsa

I was fortunate enough to see the crater in Arizona. I was supposed to be selling long distance calling cards in Winslow but decided to make a detour and spend the day there.

It is a sight to see.

I suppose you believe the Earth is 6000 years old as well?

I mean really...if you're serious, then there's no help for you.

Why did the dinosaurs die out?

There are dozens of theories to explain a probable cause or causes. Throughout the Mesozoic Era, individual dinosaur species were evolving and becoming extinct for various reasons. The unusually massive extinction at the end of the Cretaceous exterminated the last of the dinosaurs, the flying reptiles, and the large swimming reptiles, as well as many other marine animals. There is now widespread evidence that a meteorite impact was at least the partial cause for this extinction. Impact craters are visible on most planets in our solar system. A spectacular example of this was witnessed in 1994, when Jupiter was struck by a series of cometary fragments. Some of these impact blasts were larger than the Earth's diameter. Other factors such as extensive release of volcanic gases, climatic cooling (with related changes in ocean currents and weather patterns), sea-level change, low reproduction rates, poison gases from a comet, or changes in the Earth's orbit or magnetic field may have contributed to this extinction event.

General, ive got a few thoughts as well.. the impact of the asteroid that hit the yucatan pennisula being one of them.... the other is that after the biblical flood of Noah, the entire atmosphere changed, this was a far different earth prior to the flood and i could go into lengthy detail about that... lots of animals prior to the flood could not adapt to life after the flood.. i can back this up with examples, as in the wooly mammoth,, lots of these were frozen with green vegatation in their stomachs and mouths.. the ice age happened but it happened quickly.. dont know if you have looked at it from this point of view but id be glad to tell you a few things...

do me a favor and read chapter 1 of Genesis... notice how people lived to be over 900yrs old before the flood, then compare the ages in the immediate generations that followed... you once asked, "should i read the bible".. i once again beg you to do so...

Death, no offense to you but i choose to believe the first book in the Bible on this matter, my comments were directed only to the General...

those that believe need no proof, those that do not believe, there can never be enough proof... "to each his own".

You choose to believe the first book of the Bible versus the mountains and mountains of scientific PROOF??

You, sir, are a nutjob.

What does Christianity say about gambling?

the biblical flood is a tale "borrowed" from Sumerian lore.

Exactly.

Nothing in Christianity is original. It all comes from prior folklore. The Jesus myth of immaculate conception and resurrection has been done many times...and all predate Christianity by thousands of years.

death: don't be so harsh. many many people believe that stuf and they are not nut jobs. maybe just not informed. and we all can't be well informed about everything. but, I will tell you that, (as I mentioned above), this same scenerio about a huge flood comes from the "tales of gilgemish" from ancient summeria long before noah.
